This is Nelson’s fifth trip to the country. Less than one half-percent of people are Christians in this region, and even those are closely monitored by the government. Those who missed the event can still make a difference in the lives of children who are living in poverty by going to the radio station’s website and sponsoring a child with a $38-a-month commitment. Compassion Radio is a boots-on-the-ground communications ministry that goes beyond talk into action serving the neediest people in the toughest places on. “We are grateful to be a part of something so powerful and life-changing for so many children around the world.”Ĭompassion International helps empower more than 1.9 million children world-wide through programs that provide food, medical care, Christian education, skills training and spiritual guidance. God has given us adequate legal paperwork to be able to preach the Gospel on Compassion Radio. “The WGTS listening family has shown, once again, how generous they truly are,” said Kevin Kruger, WGTS general manager. We are currently reaching 5 million folks in the Spanish language with a radio station in San Cristobal De Las Casas and another 500,000 who speak the Mayan languages of Tzotzil, Tzeltal and Tojolabal in the state of Chiapas, Mexico. For two days, the station spotlighted the stories of children who are growing up in poor areas of the world, and it gave listeners the opportunity to help meet the needs of nearly 1,000 of them.
